Victims Merapi, Sultan Ask Residents Rise Soon!

YOGYAKARTA – Sultan Hamengkubuwono X expects that residents who were displaced by the eruption of Merapi soon rise from adversity. Therefore, it is assisting the Government of Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY), local governments concerned, as well as private party or the other, in maximizing post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction process.

“I beg the gentlemen have the will to rise. As the name help, will not always meet expectations,” said the Sultan to a number of refugees, on Monday (22/11/2010), at the Command Post in Jenggala Wonosari Babadan Hamlet, Wedomartani, District Ngemplak, Sleman.

But, continued the Sultan, how residents in these camps could rise up, then can work together with district and provincial governments in the process of rehabilitation and reconstruction. Even so, residents are asked to not have to think about next steps.

“I do not want to burden the gentlemen to think of something about the next stages. But from this incident, we can re-establish and build a future together,” said Sultan.

Sultan also asked the head of a village or hamlet head around the slopes of Merapi to register citizens who lost their homes or major damage. “We were just used so that data is complete,” he added.
